Summary

Untold millions of people - and the programs helping them - need practical resources to make their lives successful. Food for starving children. Medicines for the sick. Seeds for farmers. Clothing for the naked and shivering. Even fire trucks for Brazil's rain forests.

WER receives daily requests for commodities. We verify needs and cultural appropriateness of supplies we can procure. We then seek those supplies from corporate donors and other charities. Before shipping, we check that supplies are safe and usable, and we often must obtain import permission from foreign embassies in the U.S.

It's a long struggle to get 25,000 pounds of baby food from New Orleans to an orphanage in Africa. But when we hear the grateful "thanks" from people we help, we understand how our efforts answer prayer. And then we also realize we've multiplied your "charitable punch" ten-fold. It's the classic "win-win" situation which blesses everyone.

This organization is a nonprofit. Contributions to it are fully tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. It is a member of the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA).

Statement of Faith [ Back to top ]

WER uses the following to express its Statement of Faith:

  • God is sovereign, and His grace is sufficient for all our justification.
  • God appears in the Bible and throughout history as Father, Son and Holy Spirit in creation, providence, revelation, redemption and final judgment.
  • The Bible is divinely inspired, and is totally trustworthy and is the supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct.
  • The life and work of Jesus Christ, best exhibited through the Cross, is our all-sufficient ground for redemption from the guilt and power of sin.
  • The only salvation for lost and sinful people is through regeneration by God through the working of the Holy Spirit.
  • The contemporary ministry of the same Holy Spirit enables a Christian to live a godly life to its fullest.
  • Jesus Christ will return to this world in power and glory, to judge both the living and the dead.
  • Christians are to function as the Body of Christ in this world and that spiritual unity of believers embraces equality across racial, gender, cultural and class differences.
  • Our challenge as Christians is to find God's Will, and then do it...recognizing that in all matters we are to love God and to love our neighbors.
  • A personal relationship with God is essential to effective Christian life. The best nurture for that relationship is through regular, daily prayer and Bible study.

History [ Back to top ]

WER started in 1974 as an informal outreach by an American religious broadcaster wishing to deliver emergency aid to drought- stricken Africa and flood victims in Bangladesh.

In 1985, WER incorporated and elected Reverend Joel MacCo llam, an Episcopal minister, as its first (and current) president. Current efforts are focused on five continents, plus long-term relief to Native Americans.

Volunteers to work throughout the world in these specialized areas.

  • Experienced teachers and school administrators to work in schools in Burundi and the Dominican Republic. Spanish and French skills are a plus.
  • Medical and dental professionals to participate in short-term team missions. Spanish language skills are a plus. Especially in Guatemala and Honduras.

Ministry Statement or Response [ Back to top ]

This organization has not offered MinistryWatch.com with an official statement or response for their profile. This area is meant as a mechanism for the profiled ministry to communicate anything they may choose. It is open ended as to the topic, issues, facts or news to address. It is not negative if there is no official statement as many don’t have anything to add than what is already on the profile. This section is not tied to transparency or to communication in general. Many very open and talkative ministries with us choose not to post an official statement. This section is just an open ended offering to the profiled ministry for anything extra to say as they may choose.
