United World Mission exists to establish reproducing churches throughout the world.
Program Accomplishments [ Back to top ]
UWM led in the formation and initial direction of The Alliance for Saturation Church Planting, facilitating the establishment of 1000 churches throughout Eastern Europe and the CIS from 1992 to 1996.
UWM's national church associations in Mali, Congo, Vietnam, Bolivia, Venezuela, Guatemala and Cuba (which were established by UWM missionaries) each have been made thoroughly indigenous, being completely led and supported by national leadership.
UWM founded Dakar Academy in Dakar, Senegal, which has emerged as a well-respected mission and international school of 130 students per year. Dakar Academy has provided high-quality Christian education and witness to the children of hundreds of missionaries and international embassy and business families who have been students at the academy through the years.
UWM established 26 training sites in Romania since 1994 which have helped facilitate the planting of more than 300 churches in Romania in the past two years.
UWM assisted in planting 24 churches in Ethiopia from 1994 to 1996.
UWM trained Estonians to research the church planting needs of their country which led to a national conference on church planting and church growth in 1997.
UWM sent a team to Nicaragua which has developed five training sites and trained more than 85 Nicaraguans for ministry.
UWM has targeted the world's 50 million Deaf population - one of the largest unreached people groups in the world.
In our 52-year history, UWM has planted, directly facilitated or helped partners plant 1095 churches in 30 countries, of which 863 were planted in the last six years. Of the most recent churches, 485 were planted through the direct efforts of UWM's international partners. These churches touch approximately 55,000 people every Sunday morning.
UWM has also been directly involved in establishing or strongly maintaining three Christian schools (Budapest, Hungary; Santa Cruz, Bolivia; Dakar, Senegal), a school for the blind (Korea), nine formal Bible schools and church planter programs in the U.S., Congo, Mali, Belgium, Cuba, Venezuela, Hungary, Cyprus, and Romania.
Statement of Faith [ Back to top ]
UWM uses the following to express its values:
That the Bible is the inspired, infallible, authoritative Word of God, without error in the original languages.
In one God, manifesting Himself in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
In the deity of Christ, His virgin birth, His sinlessness, His miracles, His vicarious and atoning death, His bodily resurrection, His ascension to the right hand of the Father and His personal and imminent return.
That regeneration by the Holy Spirit is essential for the salvation of lost men and that this salvation is wholly of grace through faith.
In the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling God's people are enabled to live godly lives.
That the Church consists of all who trust in Christ and are true believers in His atoning death.
In the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life, and they that are lost unto the resurrection of judgment and separation from God.
In the spiritual unity of all believers in our Lord Jesus Christ.
The seeds of United World Mission began in 1940, growing out of a need expressed by several churches in the Dayton, Ohio area, for a vehicle for sending missionaries to Cuba. Initial direction and leadership came from Dr. Sidney Correll, then pastor of the Christian Tabernacle in Dayton. The subsequent partnership with other churches, both in and outside the Dayton area, resulted in the eventual incorporation of UWM in 1946.
Soon UWM missionaries were at work in Bolivia, Brazil, Venezuela and other South American countries. Eventually, they sent missionaries to Africa, Asia and Europe. UWM had moved its headquarters to St. Petersburg, Florida in 1960, to be close to its Cuban mission. But the facility was landlocked, with little room for growth. In 1988, with expansion money available, UWM moved to a larger campus in Union Mills, North Carolina.
UWM currently has approximately 115 missionaries working in 24 countries, over 40 staff at the International Center in Union Mills, and approximately 43 appointees in the process of raising support for their departure to the field.

This organization has not offered MinistryWatch.com with an official statement or response for their profile. This area is meant as a mechanism for the profiled ministry to communicate anything they may choose. It is open ended as to the topic, issues, facts or news to address. It is not negative if there is no official statement as many don’t have anything to add than what is already on the profile. This section is not tied to transparency or to communication in general. Many very open and talkative ministries with us choose not to post an official statement. This section is just an open ended offering to the profiled ministry for anything extra to say as they may choose.
