History [ Back to top ]

Started in 1951, for 35 years Transport For Christ was primarily a mobile ministry, with chapels going from truckstop to truckstop. In 1986, only two of six mobile chapels were in operation, with an average of 100-120 truckers coming to Christ per year. The first permanent chapel was placed in a truckstop in Harrisburg, PA, at the request of the truckstop owner in 1986. That year, 150 drivers trusted Christ through the ministry of that one chapel. Operational costs were dramatically reduced and many local people got involved in the ministry as volunteers. From this point on, all new TFC chapels were placed permanently at truckstops across the country.

TFC opened four new chapels in 1994. In addition, a mobile chapel was established in Moscow, Russia under the leadership of two Russian chaplains. Six more chapels were added between 1995-98, while a second permanent chapel was inaugurated in Moscow during that time.

In addition to active ministry in 22 truckstops in North America and two chapels in Moscow, TFC publishes a monthly magazine, Highway News and Good News, which ministers to the needs of truckers and is distributed across the country.

Ministry Statement or Response [ Back to top ]

This organization has not offered MinistryWatch.com with an official statement or response for their profile. This area is meant as a mechanism for the profiled ministry to communicate anything they may choose. It is open ended as to the topic, issues, facts or news to address. It is not negative if there is no official statement as many don’t have anything to add than what is already on the profile. This section is not tied to transparency or to communication in general. Many very open and talkative ministries with us choose not to post an official statement. This section is just an open ended offering to the profiled ministry for anything extra to say as they may choose.
