Mission Statement [ Back to top ]

TCM International uses the following to communicate its mission:

TCM International prepares men and women for Christian leadership and provides benevolent assistance in Eastern Europe.

To accomplish its educational purpose, TCM offers through the Institute, one certificate and two degree programs and helps direct students in doctoral programs in theology in universities in Belgium and in Romania. Students who complete these programs should demonstrate progress in Christian formation, know essential biblical and theological resources for ministry, communicate their understanding of the Christian faith to others, develop a theology of ministry as an expression of serving Christ, and demonstrate skills in the various practices of ministry.

To accomplish its historic mission of benevolence assistance TCM distributes literature, clothing, supplies, and financial assistance to Christians throughout Eastern and Central Europe.

Program Accomplishments [ Back to top ]

  • TCM recently purchased a house almost adjacent to their present campus. Renovations have been made to provide apartments for two missionary families, and lodging for five female students on the top level.
  • TCM has connected a campus-wide computer network, built a new large classroom, and upgraded administration facilities to provide a conference/seminar room (with efficiency kitchen, reception area, and workroom), storage areas, and offices for TCM and Institute staff, adjunct faculty, and Ph.D. students.
  • TCM’s Master of Arts degree is currently accredited through their articulation agreement with Cincinnati Bible College and Seminary. They are currently working through the process for regional accreditation with the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Accrediting Association.
  • A new partnership with the Evangelical Theological Faculty (a seminary accredited in Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands to offer M.Th. and Ph.D. degrees) makes possible flexible advanced study for TCM’s graduates.
  • In 2005, TCM Institute had its eleventh graduation. Thirty-three students from nine countries graduated.
  • TCM’s future goals include the following:
    • To increase the use of technology to teach and publish in Eastern and Central Europe, including the availability of on-line research.
    • To offer more study concentration in specialty areas such as Christian Preaching and Worship, Christian Formation, Christian Counseling, Christian Leadership and Management, and Church Health and Mission.
    • To increase Institute faculty to include at least 50% Eastern and Central Europeans by 2010.
    • To Provide more benevolence and church assistance to help Eastern and Central European churches to grow.
    • To expand the Institute to include at least 600 graduate students and 10 doctoral students by 2005.
  • Goals for Haus Edelweiss include:
    • Building a library addition to house more books, computer work areas, and research space.
    • Providing more scholarship funds.
    • Securing accreditation this year for the TCM International Institute to offer M.A. and M.Div. degrees.

Statement of Faith [ Back to top ]

TCM International uses the following to express its faith:

1. We believe the world must hear the gospel of Christ. Therefore, we have entered into a voluntary association dedicated to spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ around the world as God opens doors and the Holy Spirit leads.

2. We believe Jesus Christ is God's only begotten Son who came to earth to rescue humanity from sin and death.

3. We believe the death of Jesus Christ on the cross made salvation possible for all who accept His grace.

4. We believe salvation is personal. Therefore, each of us has accepted Christ as Lord and Savior and has repented and been baptized.

5. We believe Jesus arose from the grave and will return to claim His own.

6. We believe each Christian must live a life dedicated to Christ. Therefore, each of us is trying to live life to reflect total commitment to Christ as Lord.

7. We believe the Bible is the Word of God, and allow it to teach His will and direct our lives.

8. We believe the Word of God will lead men and women to do His will when it is read, believed, and obeyed. Therefore, we require no doctrinal statement of those who receive our ministry, and we distribute Bibles, hymnals, and other Christian materials to many Christian groups.

9. We believe each Christian is free in Christ. Therefore, we refrain from creating financial or ecclesiastical conditions that will deny this freedom.

10. We believe our scriptural commission is to preach Christ. Therefore, we present a non-denominational message and avoid political activity.

History [ Back to top ]

TCM’s work and ministry in Europe began with Gene Dulin’s first visit to Russia and Poland in 1963. Gene was Founder and first President of TCM International, Inc. Between 1963 and 1970 he visited Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union five times while living in Toronto, Canada. In 1971 the Haus Edelweiss property was purchased for ministry into the Soviet Union and satellite countries. The Leadership Training Center was built in 1989. Other buildings on the property were built in 1892. This property has been used as a private residence, a pension (hotel), retirement home, and headquarters for Soviet troops for a few years after World War II.

When the property was purchased it needed many repairs. For several years college students came from the United States during the summer to help with maintenance and repair projects. Missionaries and interns traveled from Haus Edelweiss into the Soviet Union and satellite countries to deliver Bibles, hymnbooks, Christian literature, clothing, food, and medicine. TCM also assisted churches by funding needed repairs on their buildings and providing automobiles for pastors. Such assistance was the main emphasis of ministry until 1982.

In 1982 a new emphasis was added to those mentioned above. TCM initiated “Summer Seminaries” at Haus Edelweiss. Eastern European pastors and church leaders were invited to come to Haus Edelweiss for two weeks of study under professors and preachers from the United States. In 1982 there were two two-week sessions. By 1990 the number had been increased to five. This ministry was important to church leaders living behind the iron curtain because there were very few Bible colleges and opportunities for taking ministry courses.

As the political situation began to change in Eastern and Central Europe, many pastors and church leaders were able to come to Haus Edelweiss to study. This year nine conferences are being held at the Haus from April through October. Each conference offers three graduate-level seminars/classes. More than 500 European Christians study at Haus Edelweiss each year.

In 1991, Dr. Tony Twist, second President of TCM International, Inc., established the “Institute for Biblical Studies” (IBS). The IBS is designed to provide graduate-level study for pastors and church leaders. When a student completes the required classes, he/she receives an accredited Master of Arts degree in Practical Ministry in conjunction with Cincinnati Bible Seminary in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA. All of the required classes are taught at Haus Edelweiss within a two-year period. Some of the classes are taught at TCM extension centres and other locations in Eastern and Central Europe. The IBS is an instrument by which TCM is fulfilling the mission of assisting, discipling, encouraging, and equipping Central and Eastern European Christians to reach their own people for Jesus Christ.

TCM International now equips leaders from sixteen countries. There are ten resident and eighteen adjunct faculty members. The process for independent accredidation with the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Schools and Colleges has begun. TCM now equips leaders from a geographic area twice the size of the United States and is the largest graduate seminary in Eastern Europe.

Ministry Statement or Response [ Back to top ]

This organization has not offered MinistryWatch.com with an official statement or response for their profile. This area is meant as a mechanism for the profiled ministry to communicate anything they may choose. It is open ended as to the topic, issues, facts or news to address. It is not negative if there is no official statement as many don’t have anything to add than what is already on the profile. This section is not tied to transparency or to communication in general. Many very open and talkative ministries with us choose not to post an official statement. This section is just an open ended offering to the profiled ministry for anything extra to say as they may choose.
