Statement of Faith [ Back to top ]
Peter Deyneka Russian Ministries uses the following to express its Statement of Faith:
1. We believe in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testament as verbally inspired by God and inerrant in the original writings, and that they are of supreme and final authority in faith and life.
2. We believe in one God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
3. We believe that Jesus Christ was begotten by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary and is true God and true man.
4. We believe that man was created in the image of God; that he sinned, and thereby incurred not only physical death, but also spiritual death which is separation from God; and that all human beings are born with a sinful nature, and in the case of those who reach moral responsibility, become sinners in thought, word and deed.
5. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, as a representative and substitutionary sacrifice; and that all who believe in Him are justified by His shed blood.
6. We believe in the resurrection of the crucified body of our Lord, in His ascension into heaven, and in His present life there for us as a High Priest and Advocate.
7. We believe in that "blessed hope," the personal return of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
8. We believe that the church, the body of Christ, consists only of those who are born again, who are baptized by the Holy Spirit into Christ at the time of regeneration, for whom He now makes intercession in heaven and for whom He will come again.
9. We believe in the bodily resurrection of the just and the unjust, the everlasting blessedness of the saved, and the everlasting, conscious punishment of the lost.
10. We believe the primary responsibility of all who are saved is to work toward the fulfillment of the Great Commission. All worldly and personal ambitions should be subordinated to that supreme command of making disciples. We believe that human betterment and social justice are essential products of the gospel.
As the 1980s ended, the Iron Curtain isolating Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union started to crumble. Earthshaking events reshaped these nations after decades of Communist domination. In 1991, during the historic days of the disintegration of the Soviet Union, Peter Deyneka Russian Ministries began as a response to new and unprecedented opportunities. Russian Ministries was founded to promote indigenous evangelism, church-planting and church growth in the former Soviet Union by developing creative and strategic partnerships between nationals and Western Christians. From the start, the goal of Russian Ministries has been to more effectively evangelize the former Soviet Union (especially Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus) and to strengthen the church there. Through more than 350 partnerships, Russian Ministries has served to enhance and improve ministry outreach and effectiveness in several areas. These areas include summer evangelistic camps, youth ministries, church construction, medical ministries, relief, and various forms of media.
In addition, Russian Ministries has been instrumental in training national believers to start churches in areas where there are nonesomething impossible during Soviet times. This developed into a plan to decentralize training from Moscow to the areas where national church-planters live and work. During the past 10 years, 52 Evangelism and Church-Planting Centers (ECPCs), strategically located across the former Soviet Union, have served at various times as training places for national missionaries, These Centers have also served as distribution points for humanitarian aid and literature, and planning for special outreaches (such as summer camps for children at risk).
Today's Russian Ministries team includes international missionary specialists, mission partners, churches and individuals. Working from our Moscow headquarters and our 25 ECPCs throughout the CIS, this team brings resources and experiences from around the world together with evangelism and church-planting opportunities in Russia and other regions of the former Soviet Union.
Everything Russian Ministries undertakes is viewed in terms of how it will help evangelize the former Soviet Union and strengthen Christ’s church there. It exists and operates as an international organization, with Christian specialists from around the world serving as facilitators and enablers, enhancing the ministries of nationals with the intent of diminishing their role diminishing and increasing the role of national leaders. The vast majority of our workers in-country are nationals.
Russian Christian nationals are starting an increasing number of churches and parachurch organizations in the former Soviet Union, from almost no parachurch organizations 12 years ago to as many as 1,000 such indigenous organizations now. Our links with these organizations continually expand, and this is our goalto focus even more on assisting Christian national individuals and organizations. We stress this strategic approach in our consulting role with Western organizations.
Currently, the most urgent need in the church in the former Soviet Union(FSU) is to evangelize and equip young Christian leaders. Unless many young leaders are mobilized, the advance of the church in the FSU in the past ten years could become a retreat. It is the Next Generation who possess potential to become a mighty missionary force in the emerging evangelized church.
