Summary

Mission: Moving Mountains ("M:MM") is an inter-denominational and evangelical international Christian mission organization. M:MM is active with more than 40 missionaries based in countries in East and West Africa. The M:MM philosophy of ministry includes a distinct blend of Spirit-led decision-making to match unreached or difficult-to-reach people groups with well-selected and equipped teams who have been called by God to minister to those people. M:MM uses a team structure at both the field and International Office levels. The following definition is commonly used to define an M:MM team: A community of believers who feel energized by their ability to work together who are fully committed to a high level of output, and who care about how each member feels during the (ministry) process. Each team within the organization is organized around a mission statement and is led by a team member. This organization is a nonprofit. Contributions to it are fully tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.

Purpose [ Back to top ]

M:MM is governed by an 18-person Board of Directors. The Board operates through the use of committees that meet on an as-needed basis. All committees forward their suggestions to the Executive Committee, a group that acts on behalf of the Board between regular Board Meetings (three times per year). The board appoints a President to carry out the daily operations of M:MM's International Office and its Executive Leadership Team (ELT). International Office activities include recruiting, equipping and supporting the people who carry out the wedded Great Commandment and Great Commission.

This organization is a nonprofit. Contributions to it are fully tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.

Statement of Faith [ Back to top ]

Mission: Moving Mountains uses the following to express its statement of faith:

The Bible is verbally inspired by the Holy Spirit in the canonical Scriptures as originally given. All the words of the Bible are the words of God as well as of man and are without error in everything they affirm. (II Tim. 3:16-17; II Peter 1:21; Titus 1:2)

The true Godhead exists in three Persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. (Deut. 6:4; Matt. 28:19; II Cor. 13:14)

The Father is a Spirit, infinite, eternal and unchangeable in all His attributes. (John 4:24; Ex. 34:6)

The Son, Jesus Christ, is fully divine, was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, died an atoning death, rose bodily from the dead, was personally exalted at God's right hand and will return personally to earth. (John 1:1-3; Luke 1:34-35; I Peter 2:24; I Cor. 15:3-4; Eph. 1:20-22; Acts 1:11)

The Holy Spirit is a divine person, equal with the Father and the Son and of the same nature. (John 15:26)

Satan is a person and is also called the devil. (Rev. 20:2)

Man is fallen and lost, and his total depravity makes necessary the new birth. (Romans 5:12; John 3:5)

Salvation is by grace through faith in the shed blood and substitutionary death of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. (Titus 3:4-7; Eph. 2:8-9; Romans 5:8)

There will be eternal blessedness for the saved and everlasting punishment for the lost. (Matt. 25:46; Phil. 3:21)

The Church, the bride of Christ, in its universal aspect comprises the whole body of those who have been born of the Spirit. In its local expression, the Church is established for worship, mutual edification and witness. (Eph. 1:22-23; 5:23-25; Acts 15:41; 16:5)

Christ's Great Commission is to go into all the world and preach the Gospel to every culture making disciples, baptizing them and teaching them. (Matt. 28:18-20)

History [ Back to top ]

M:MM started in Mbale, Uganda and was founded by Dr. Dick Patterson. Originally focused on short term missions with part-time volunteer missionaries, M:MM learned from experience and moved toward longer term missions with career missionaries. Early M:MM missionaries established water and village sanitation systems and trained health workers, and was launched in four different locations in Uganda, and then in Kenya, Tanzania, Senegal and Ethiopia. A small home-based administration office opened in 1983 to meet the needs of the full-time overseas missionaries. M:MM now has 12 full-time and part-time employees in the International Office.

Ministry Statement or Response [ Back to top ]

This organization has not offered MinistryWatch.com with an official statement or response for their profile. This area is meant as a mechanism for the profiled ministry to communicate anything they may choose. It is open ended as to the topic, issues, facts or news to address. It is not negative if there is no official statement as many don’t have anything to add than what is already on the profile. This section is not tied to transparency or to communication in general. Many very open and talkative ministries with us choose not to post an official statement. This section is just an open ended offering to the profiled ministry for anything extra to say as they may choose.
