MTI exists to serve mission boards, churches and other organizations by equipping their missionaries with vital skills and cross-cultural tools for the furtherance of Christ’s Kingdom. This is accomplished through regularly scheduled whole family training events, including pre-field cross-cultural preparation, language acquisition techniques training, post-field debriefing and renewal as well as other single emphasis workshops each year.

Since 1954 Mission Training International, formerly called Missionary Internship, has been offering on-site training programs to missionaries and their families. The current programs are: SPLICE – a three-week pre-field cross-cultural adaptation training; PILAT – a two-week Program In Language Acquisition Techniques; DAR – a one-week post-field Debriefing and Renewal; and CHIPS - Children’s Intercultural Programs mirroring the adult programs. More than 17,000 people have completed training at MTI.

MTI’s programs are designed according to adult learning principles. Interactive and experiential learning are the prime characteristics. Training is individualized as well as community-oriented to reflect the varied experiences today’s participants bring to each program. In addition, MTI develops and distributes resources to support and enhance other missionary training efforts, including CD-based language courses, cross-cultural games and print and media resources for the missionary family. To serve mission boards, churches and other organizations by equipping their missionaries with vital skills and cross-cultural tools for the furtherance of Christ’s Kingdom.

Statement of Faith [ Back to top ]

MTI cites the following as its statement of faith:

MTI’s statement of faith is considered to be congruent with a broad evangelical statement of faith.

We believe:

  1. The Bible as the divinely inspired and authoritative Word of God;
  2. The Triune Godhead in three persons—Father, Son and Holy Spirit;
  3. The personality of Satan, called the Devil, and his present control over unregenerate mankind;
  4. The fall and lost estate of man, whose depravity makes necessary the new birth;
  5. The deity of Jesus Christ, His virgin birth, death, bodily resurrection, present exaltation at God’s right hand, and personal imminent return;
  6. The atonement by the substitutionary death and shed blood of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior;
  7. The resurrection of the saved unto everlasting life and blessedness in heaven, and the resurrection of the unsaved unto everlasting punishment in hell;
  8. The Church, the Body or Bride of Christ, consisting only of those who are born again, for whom He now makes intercession in heaven and for whom He shall come again;
  9. Christ’s Great Commission to the Church to go into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature.

    History [ Back to top ]

    Mission Training International (MTI) was established in the state of Michigan as Missionary Internship in 1954 by veteran missionary R.E. Thompson. MTI moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado in 1992. With a vision to help send out well-prepared missionaries, training has always focused on the whole person and on the practical. Over the years, programs and activities have expanded and changed to address the crucial needs of missionaries and their families. At MTI’s new location in Palmer Lake, Colorado, programs include pre-field cross-cultural and language acquisition training, as well as post-field debriefing and renewal. A hallmark of MTI’s training and debriefing is that it is geared for the entire family with training, not childcare, provided for every age level. As of the end of 2005 more than 17,000 people have been served by MTI.

Ministry Statement or Response [ Back to top ]

This organization has not offered MinistryWatch.com with an official statement or response for their profile. This area is meant as a mechanism for the profiled ministry to communicate anything they may choose. It is open ended as to the topic, issues, facts or news to address. It is not negative if there is no official statement as many don’t have anything to add than what is already on the profile. This section is not tied to transparency or to communication in general. Many very open and talkative ministries with us choose not to post an official statement. This section is just an open ended offering to the profiled ministry for anything extra to say as they may choose.
