Statement of Faith [ Back to top ]

LRM uses the following to express its statement of faith:

The Triune God: Father (Creator), Son (Redeemer and Life Model) and Holy Spirit (Teacher, Equipper and Empowerer for living God's commands);

The Infallibility of the Word of God: it is the guide for the practice of our faith and the basis for all LRM programs;

The Ministry of the Laity: realizing that partnership in ministry between the laity and clergy is in keeping with God's plan for His church;

The Church as God's chosen vessel: for witness and service to a broken, hurting world.

History [ Back to top ]

LRM began in 1954 when founder Bob Fenn and a group of laymen in Dallas, Texas, organized a conference to study the role of the laity in the church. The success of this conference spawned requests for similar events in surrounding communities and churches.

The work grew over the next twenty-five years until Bob sensed God's call to sell his clothing business to devote his entire life to local church renewal. In 1984 the work was organized as Lay Renewal Ministries, Inc. in St. Louis, Missouri. In 1985 LRM acquired the Institute of Church Renewal started by Dr. Ben Johnson, thus expanding its program resources and network lay coordinators and team members throughout the country. In 1988, LRM moved to a new location and opened its Christian Resource Center. Presently their paid and volunteer staff work to serve approximately 200 churches a year with a vision to be serving in 500 churches annually by the year 2001. LRM serves churches all over the U.S. and Canada representing over 20 denominations.
