Statement of Faith [ Back to top ]
Kids Alive International uses the following to communicate its values:
I. We believe in the one infinite God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
II. We believe in Jesus Christ, the second person of the Trinity, and that, as the Son of God, He became incarnate by the Holy Spirit, being born of the Virgin Mary; that He truly rose from the dead, ascended into heaven and is now there engaged in intercession for us at the right hand of the Father.
III. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Godhead, and that He is ever present and active in and with every true born child of God, and that He is present to convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment.
IV. We believe that the Scripture of the Old and the New Testaments are given by Divine inspiration; that they are the infallible, supreme, and final authority in faith and life.
V. We believe that man was created in the image of God, that he sinned, and thereby incurred not only physical death, but also spiritual death or separation from God; that all human beings are born with a sinful nature.
VI. We believe that Jesus Christ died for our sins, according to the Scriptures; that He, as the representative and substitutionary sacrifice for sin, obtained redemption by the shedding of His blood for all who believe in Him.
VII. We believe in "that blessed hope," the personal and imminent return of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
VIII. We believe that all who repent of their sins and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ are freely justified by the Father, born again of the Holy Spirit, and thereby become children of God.
IX. We believe in the bodily resurrection of both the just and the unjust; the everlasting blessedness of the saved, and the everlasting, conscious punishment of the lost.
This global ministry began through the vision and kindness of evangelistic missionaries from the United States, Rev. Leslie and Mrs. Ava Anglin. Called by God to start churches in China, the Anglins were overwhelmed by the thousands of hungry, homeless children they encountered as they traveled from village to village. Grieving the loss of their infant daughter and only child, they were moved to care for these children and opened the doors of their home, the first Home of Onesiphorus, to care for widows and orphans.
Thus began the worldwide ministry known today as Kids Alive International. The home prospered and expanded to two other locations in nearby cities. Following the changes in China’s government in 1949, Kids Alive responded to the need in Hong Kong with a food and clothing distribution center for refugees. Subsequent Kids Alive facilities opened in other countries in an attempt to meet the enormous need of caring for at-risk children. In 1983, the home office of Kids Alive International relocated from Chicago to its present location in Valparaiso, Indiana. Kids Alive has affiliate offices in the United Kingdom, Canada, Taiwan and Hong Kong.
Since 1916, Kids Alive has continued to expand its ministry worldwide:
- Lebanon (1948)
- Hong Kong (1949)
- Taiwan (1972)
- Dominican Republic (1989)

Prayer
Kids Alive International realizes and relies on the faithful prayers of Christians to accomplish God’s purposes and build His Kingdom. “Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful apart from me.” John 15:4-5
Kids Alive has ongoing opportunities and needs (listed below) where they operate overseas to help care for the children at risk in our care.
Long-Term Missionaries with Kids Alive International are individuals who have felt the call of God to work full-time at one of our overseas ministry locations. Our Long-Term Missionary applicants have normally completed college and then gained some experience in their profession. We are especially looking for people with leadership and training skills who have a passion for equipping our national staff members. The time commitment is a minimum of 2 1/2 years.
The needs are numerous. We particularly need the following skills:
- Youth workers
- Directors of Programs
- Support Staff
- Social workers
- Trained counselors
- Construction Trade Skills
- ESL Teachers (English as a Second Language)
- Teachers (pre-school, elementary or secondary)
- Computer Teachers
- Accounting/Finance
- Entrepreneurs
Short-Term Missionaries are individuals who are age 19 or older or have had one year of college, or the opportunity to work as one of our Kids Alive Missionaries in a community of service to children-at-risk. It is our hope that as a Kids Alive Short-term Missionary you will discover your place of greatest impact in God’s Kingdom.
A strong candidate will exhibit a commitment to Jesus Christ, a natural love for children, team attitude, experience working with children and knowledge of the language of the field or a willingness to learn the language of the field of service. (Language training is required of all Short-term Missionaries).
Short-Term Missionaries Opportunities:
- Summer Intern: 6-10 weeks between May and August
- Intern: 1 month to 6 months
- Short-Term Missionary: 7 months to 2 years
Volunteer Service Teams are small groups of individuals who work directly with a Kids Alive ministry to primarily accomplish a specific project or program. The majority of our teams work on a construction project, however, there are other opportunities (listed below) for service:
- Construction trade skills
- Tutoring
- Activity Leaders
- Childcare
- Music
- Art
- Drama
- Medical
These Service Teams, numbering between 6 and 15 participants, are usually formed by a local church or organization, and serve on one of our fields for a one or two week period. Teams welcome the time set aside to interact with the children in our care.
Sponsorship (Child, Home, Care Center, Classroom) Individuals, churches, groups and organizations make it possible for orphaned and abandoned children to receive the care (education, medical care, meals, clothing, etc.) that they need to thrive through our Kids Alive sponsorship program. Kids Alive offers a variety of sponsorship options from developing a one-on-one relationship through child sponsorship ($35/month), to less personal group communication with a home, care center or classroom sponsorship ($100/month).
Additional Ministry Giving Opportunities:
- I JUST WANT TO HELP KIDS! allows Kids Alive to provide ongoing care for the children we rescue who are not full sponsored
- SUPPORT A MISSIONARY your giving makes it possible for missionaries to remain on the field and serve without concerning themselves with necessary financial support
- SUPPORT A MINISTRY perhaps you want to support a specific Kids Alive ministry location; you can do this at any give amount for any field
- EVERLASTING LEGACY make an ongoing impact and investment in this 90+ year ministry of rescuing suffering children worldwide; include Kids Alive in your planned giving.
- MEDICAL EMERGENCIES some children we rescue have major medical needs requiring both emergency and numerous surgeries
- WHERE THE NEED IS GREATEST ongoing construction of new homes, care centers, schools, adding new staff, training staff, and rising inflation/US dollar devaluation overseas, are a few of the continuous needs Kids Alive missionaries face daily

This organization has not offered MinistryWatch.com with an official statement or response for their profile. This area is meant as a mechanism for the profiled ministry to communicate anything they may choose. It is open ended as to the topic, issues, facts or news to address. It is not negative if there is no official statement as many don’t have anything to add than what is already on the profile. This section is not tied to transparency or to communication in general. Many very open and talkative ministries with us choose not to post an official statement. This section is just an open ended offering to the profiled ministry for anything extra to say as they may choose.
