We believe in the full inerrancy of Scripture; in God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit; in the virgin birth, sinless life, atoning death, physical resurrection and visible, personal return of our Lord Jesus Christ; in salvation by grace through faith in the finished work of Christ; in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit expressed in His fruit, gifts and power; in New Testament evangelism, consecrated Christian living, the local church, the ministry of reconciliation and the urgency of fulfilling the Great Commission.

History [ Back to top ]

Global Advance was born first as a dream in the heart of David Shibley. As he traveled extensively in the 1980's as missions director for a large church, David became firmly convinced that the key to fulfilling Christ’s Great Commission lay in the empowering of native pastors and church leaders to reach the people of their own nations. At the same time, it was painfully clear that most of the time these "frontline shepherds" were poorly trained and had few, if any, resources for ministry. In Nigeria in 1987, a pastor approached David with a tearful request. This man had holes in his shoes and a torn shirt, yet his request was not for clothing. "Dr. Shibley," he pled, "please train us and please send us literature."

In response to this man’s heart-felt plea and the call for help from thousands of native pastors like him, Global Advance was founded in 1990 to "equip frontline shepherds for world harvest." David often refers to these native pastors as "the quickest, most cost-effective and most culturally sensitive way" to reach a nation with the Christian message.

Since its inception, Global Advance has provided on-sight training for over 230,000 pastors and church leaders in over 60 nations. In Frontline Shepherds Conferences, focused primarily on underdeveloped nations, native pastors and church leaders receive "a vision in their hearts and tools in their hands." Books and ministry resources have been translated into 13 languages.

The Global Advance Center for Evangelism and Church Planting in India, one of five training centers Global Advance has helped to establish, sponsors three institutes each year that train 1000 Christian workers annually. The Warren Shibley Library, located in the Center, is becoming one of the major learning centers in the nation. With a collection already of over 3500 volumes, the library has a goal of acquiring 10,000 new volumes by the year 2000. A third story is under construction for the Center that will focus on audio-visual media for education.

David Shibley, founder and president of Global Advance, is a graduate of John Brown University (where he was selected Outstanding Alumnus of 1995) and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He also holds an honorary doctorate from ORU.
