Purpose [ Back to top ]

Life Centers helps women in unexpected pregnancy situations in a special way to share Christ's compassion, love, and hope. Life Centers affirms the value of life in this way by providing a network of care that includes counseling, healing support, and resources that explain the truth about life.

The organization was founded to empower women in unplanned pregnancies to make life-affirming choices for themselves and their future. Life Centers offers free pregnancy testing, information about alternatives, medical referrals, and confidential counseling services.

Life Centers recognizes the validity of adoption as one alternative to abortion but is not biased toward adoption when compared to the other life-saving alternatives. Centers are independent of adoption agencies, relating to them in the same manner as to other helpful referral sources. Life Centers receives no payment of any kind from these agencies, does not enter into contractual relationships with them, and does not share combined office space. Adoption agencies are not established under the auspices of centers. Life Centers neither initiates nor facilitates independent adoptions, though they may refer for independent adoptions in states where it is legal.

Life Centers is a nonprofit organization and contributions to it are tax-deductible to the extent provided by law. In addition, they are members of Care Net.

Mission Statement [ Back to top ]

The mission of Life Centers is to affirm the value of life by providing a network of care to those experiencing pregnancy-related crisis and by compassionately presenting Biblical truth resulting in changed lives to the glory of God.

Program Accomplishments [ Back to top ]

Life Centers serves more than 8,000 women in Central IN each year.

Statement of Faith [ Back to top ]

Life Centers has adopted The National Association of Evangelicals Statement of Faith. All employees and volunteers of Life Centers adhere to the following basic Biblical truths:

  1. We believe the Bible to be the inspired, only infallible authoritative Word of God.
  2. We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
  3. We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory.
  4. We believe that for the salvation of the lost and sinful man, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential and that this salvation is received through faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord and not as a result of good works.
  5. We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life and to perform good works.
  6. We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost: they that are saved unto the resurrection of life and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation.
  7. We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ.
Statement of Principle
  1. Life Centers is an outreach ministry of Jesus Christ through His church. Therefore, Life Centers, embodied in its staff and volunteers, is committed to presenting the Gospel of our Lord both in word and in deed to women with crisis pregnancies. Commensurate with this purpose, those who labor as Life Centers board members, directors and volunteers are expected to know Christ as their Savior and Lord.
  2. Life Centers is committed to providing its clients with accurate and complete information about both prenatal development and abortion. However, Life Centers does not recommend, provide, or refer for abortion or abortifacients.
  3. Life Centers is committed to integrity in dealing with clients, earning their trust and providing promised information and services. Life Centers denounces any form of deception in its corporate advertising or individual conversations with its clients.
  4. Life Centers is committed to assisting women to carry to term by providing emotional support and practical assistance. Through the provision of God's people and the community at large, women may face the future with hope and plan constructively for themselves and their babies.
  5. Life Centers does not discriminate in providing services because of race, creed, color, national origin, age or marital status of its clients.
  6. Life Centers offers assistance free of charge at all times.
  7. Life Centers is committed to creating awareness within the local community of the needs of pregnant women and the fact that abortion only compounds human need rather than resolving it.
  8. Life Centers does not recommend, provide, or refer single women for contraceptives. (Married women seeking contraceptive information should be urged to seek counsel, along with their husbands, from their pastors and physicians.)

History [ Back to top ]

In April 2008 Life Centers changed its name from Central Indiana Crisis Pregnancy Center.

Ministry Needs [ Back to top ]

Life Centers could use the following specific support:

  • Fund-A-Center
Every year thousands of women walk into our centers in need of help. Life Centers meets them with compassion and provides all services free-of-charge. Comfortable counseling rooms, up-to-date technology, and strategic center locations enable Life Centers to effectively reach the abortion-vulnerable woman. Life Centers could not keep its doors open without the generous investments of those who fuel our outreach through overhead support. Your gift of $350 will keep a center open for an entire day?s operations.
  • Radio ? Life Matters
Real stories of new lives in Christ are part of His greater story. These are the inspiring results of sharing the truth about life with women in unplanned pregnancies. Life Centers? new radio program, Life Matters, broadcasts a personal testimony each day from a Life Centers client or counselor. Your donation of $750 will underwrite one week of production and will let others hear about daily miracles happening in the lives of young women through Life Centers.
  • STD Testing
With a growing epidemic of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) in Indiana, many sexually active teen girls are seeking STD testing services. By providing free STD screening, our licensed Nurse Practitioners build relationships with those who are vulnerable to disease and who may become pregnant. For a donation of $145, you can cover the cost of one STD test for this vital ministry.
  • Ultrasound Ministry
The life-saving ultrasound machine can change the mind of a woman considering abortion with a single heartbeat. Over 80% of abortion vulnerable women choose life after viewing the image of their baby. Life Centers? trained technicians currently operate six machines, offering ultrasounds free-of-charge to hundreds of clients each year. An ultrasound not only helps determine whether a pregnancy is viable, but can also mean the difference between life and death. Your gift of $6,000 will enable ultrasound staff to reach women for one month.
  • Counselor Training
Every day, volunteer counselors embrace hurting women in unexpected pregnancy situations. Life Centers? unique 21-hour volunteer training course is designed to equip these counselors to effectively minister and listen to the young women who walk through our doors. Life Centers volunteers learn the peer counseling skills needed to offer non-judgmental care in different types of crisis situations. A gift of $500 equips five volunteers who are on the frontlines of the ministry.
  • Support Services
Many young women who are considering abortion face overwhelming financial obstacles. A pregnant client is relieved to know that, if she decides to carry the baby, she will not be alone. Life Centers supports women who have chosen life by supplying diapers, maternity clothes, and baby care items. Housed at our downtown Meridian Street Center, Support Services provide an additional opportunity to show women the love of Jesus Christ outside the counseling room. A donation of $250 will supply one mom with a full newborn baby care package while sharing the gospel of hope.
  • Evangelism Outreach - Bibles
Of the thousands of women who hear the gospel in our ten centers each year, more than 1,000 confess faith in Christ! Life Centers offers these women free Bibles that contain basic, easy to follow studies for new believers in Christ. Counselors follow up with these clients to answer questions as the power of God?s Word transforms lives. A gift of $1,500 will supply one center with 2,000 new Bibles and change lives for eternity.
  • Staff Continuing Education
Every day Life Centers? Center Directors face the potential death of unborn babies and breathe affirming words of life in troubled circumstances. To energize and equip our leaders for this high calling, Life Centers sends staff to training conferences, where they can connect with other pregnancy care workers across the nation. Your gift of $500 will provide continuing education for one staff member.
  • G.R.A.C.E. Program (God?s Real Acceptance Compassion and Encouragement)
Research shows one in four women have experienced the hurt of abortion. For post-abortive women who desire to be healed from this emotional pain, Life Centers offers an intimate Bible study and support group. Led by trained staff, the G.R.A.C.E program is expanding through local churches to free more women from burdens of the past with the good news of forgiveness. For $25, you can provide the materials for one post-abortive woman to attend G.R.A.C.E., freeing her to reach others for Christ.

Shining Light [ Back to top ]

MinistryWatch.com's 2008 list of 30 Shining Light Ministries

Analyst Comments [ Back to top ]

Life Centers listed by MinistryWatch.com as a 2008 Shining Light ?Top 30? Exemplary Ministry.

MinistryWatch.com desires to see overall giving to Biblical Christian values increase and as such we developed this format to highlight those ministries which are exemplary. This ministry is one of the ?best ministries? and outstanding examples when we consider Philippians 4:8 and weigh and take account of those ministries that are excellent and worthy of praise.

Identifying a diversity of the best ministries is challenging given the selfless work that so many do for the cause of Christ. No one is able to give to every ministry that one values as we are not possessed of unlimited resources. It is best to make an assessment of our options and make discerning decisions. MinistryWatch.com?s assessment looked at the following seven areas when considering those to make the list:

  1. Transparency
  2. Truth Claims
  3. Values/ Worldview
  4. Sectors/Functions
  5. Resourcefulness
  6. Red Flag Issues
  7. Consultation
A fuller explanation of our evaluation criteria is on the front page of MinistryWatch.com. A foundational premise was to shine a figurative light on those ministries that were "Christian" more than in name only. Ministries were chosen that were not just marketing to Christians as a market segment for "Christian donor money", but ministries that had theological underpinnings and Biblical values that determined their actions. Organizations that relied more on a secular motivation and means were excluded as well as those ?ministries? that seem to view the organization as their own vehicle as a business to make money rather than a love to maximize ministry to others and to let their light shine for the glory of God.

Inclusion on this Shining Light list does not mean this ministry or other listed ministries are perfect. No ministry is perfect and any that look long and hard enough may find areas for improvement; as no doubt most legitimate ministries are aware of areas to improve and have their own to-do list. Only you can decide for yourself with confidence if a ministry shares your values and with your giving plan. As far as MinistryWatch.com?s assessment, given the criteria that we followed, this ministry rose to the top.

This is just another step in our mission of encouraging Christians to give more of their talents and resources to Kingdom-building efforts. In short, we wish to help spread the Gospel of Christ by helping Christians give more and more effectively to the works of the Lord. If the Lord uses our list as part of that process, we will have been a blessing to both those ministries who have been ?good and faithful servants? with the Lord?s resources and to Christian donors who are seeking to be good stewards of their giving.

Ministry Statement or Response [ Back to top ]

December 2008 -- Thank you MinistryWatch.com for your encouragement and for selecting Life Centers as a 2008 Shining Light ministry. We give thanks to the Lord that since our founding in 1982 we have had the opportunity to affirm the value of life by providing a network of care to women facing unplanned pregnancies by compassionately presenting Biblical truth resulting in changed lives to the glory of God. Our dedicated staff, volunteers and supporters are committed to passionately proclaiming the Gospel as we reach thousands of women each year in need of compassion, hope and the saving grace of Jesus Christ. We rejoice at the salvation of souls and the hundreds of babies saved from abortion each year in Central Indiana because of the faithful prayers and support from the Christian community that stands behind the ministry of Life Centers. May the Lord continue to guide our efforts as we daily seek to serve Him with humility and integrity. Thank you again, and please keep us in your prayers.
