To present Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord to business and professional people;

To develop Christian business and professional people to carry out the Great Commission; and

To serve business and professional people as followers of Jesus.

Program Accomplishments [ Back to top ]

CBMC estimates that more than 100,000 men and women participate in CBMC-sponsored meetings and events worldwide on a weekly or monthly basis, through more than 2,000 local committees and ministry teams.

Statement of Faith [ Back to top ]

CBMC uses the following to communicate its values:

The overall philosophy of CBMC is that of a "satisfied customer"--one business person telling another about the difference Jesus Christ has made in his or her life. In this way we serve as "Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God" (2 Corinthians 5:20).

History [ Back to top ]

In the 1930s, when money became more temporal than the average man had ever dreamed it would be, when the things money can't buy became priceless necessities to an entire nation, the Roaring Twenties crashed into a deep depression that etched itself into the spirit of a generation. As the grave need for spiritual direction grew apparent, a few Biblically minded men formed CBMC. CBMC was established as the Christian Business Men's Committee in Chicago, Illinois, USA in 1930. The small group of Christian businessmen who served as its founders was responding to the great spiritual needs that were becoming evident in the midst of the Great Depression.

In 1938, CBMC became an international ministry with members from the USA and other nations gathering for the first of more than 50 annual Conventions.

The early 1970's saw action taken to make each national CBMC ministry a separate entity, although they were loosely knit together through an International Council that met every four years.

CBMC-USA became a prototype for other CBMC national ministries, with leaders from many countries turning to the CBMC-USA for ministry help, direction, tools and training in making their own ministries more effective and fruitful. To strengthen the cooperative relationship between CBMC nations, Christian Business Men's Committee International was incorporated in 1987 to establish unity--but not uniformity--within the ministry around the world.

At that time, Roger Erickson was appointed President of CBMC International, reporting to the International Board consisting of leaders from around the world. He served in that role for nearly 10 years, until he was succeeded in 1997 by Tim Philpot at the 6th World CBMC Convention held in Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Germany.

In 1987 CBMC ministries existed in 27 countries; today the ministry to business and professional people has been established in 69 nations. God continues to open up opportunities to expand the work of CBMC worldwide, including one-time Communist countries and nations where non-Christian religions hold the greatest influence.

Ministry Statement or Response [ Back to top ]

This organization has not offered MinistryWatch.com with an official statement or response for their profile. This area is meant as a mechanism for the profiled ministry to communicate anything they may choose. It is open ended as to the topic, issues, facts or news to address. It is not negative if there is no official statement as many don’t have anything to add than what is already on the profile. This section is not tied to transparency or to communication in general. Many very open and talkative ministries with us choose not to post an official statement. This section is just an open ended offering to the profiled ministry for anything extra to say as they may choose.
