Ministry to the following peoples:
Burkina Faso, Mali, Ethiopia, Uganda, Sudan, Haiti, Nepal, Cote d'Ivoire, Bangladesh, Zambia, Nigeria, Pakistan, India, Laos, Kenya, Cameroon, Ghana, Myanmar, Papua New Guinea, Vietnam, Morocco, Guatemala, USA, Honduras, Bolivia, El Salvador, Egypt, Indonesia, Philippines, Ukraine, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Peru, Jamaica, Romania, Ecuador, Iran, Brazil, Russia, Malaysia, Thailand, Colombia, Mexico, Costa Rica, South Korea, Canada

BHI’s crisis relief ministry provides people, who live in destitute circumstances, with food, clothing, medicines, disaster relief. BHI’s current relief ministry projects include the hungry in Kenya, prisoners in Peru, and street children in Mexico City

Their Job Creation program aspires to provide regular income and give dignity to the poor by establishing cooperatives that teach job skills, networking ability, and product distribution.

In Guatemala the Angel of Hope Ornament initiative helps refugee women in LaEsperanza ornaments to provide for the needs of their children.

In the Bosnian Greeting Cards initiative, Bosnian refugees produce original illustrations for greeting cards. Through the sale of these greeting cards refugees are able to provide for their families. These are packaged in sets, then distributed by Bright Hope.

In Indonesian Bell Ornament initiative, Christian women gather together to make ornaments in their homes to earn enough money to provide for their families while their husbands attend college.

Bright Hope is sponsoring over 100 evangelists in 15 countries to start churches in poor communities.

Angola Hope Pack Project Isaiah 9:2 says, "The people walking in darkness have seen a great light". Seeing in the darkness is the greatest gift that we can give to this people.

The former policy of the Government was to oppress and even stamp out the Church. Due to the war there has been no school system in Angola for the past 30 years. The need for education of the soul and the mind is so vital, so people can have a chance to read the Bible and come to a deeper relationship with God.

Through the generosity of the hundreds of men and women involved in this partnership it is possible that education will become a reality for some of the youth in Angola. Hope packs are a school satchel, which is filled with some of the basics, like paper and pencils, needed for the beginning of an education. Included in the Pack is a pictographic New Testament in Portuguese for the beginnings of a much more eternal education.

BHI has a second goal, namely, to provide, as Jesus did, for the immediate and pressing needs of people. Containers are being filled with medical supplies, wheel chairs for mine victims, building materials for new houses and cloths and shoes. All of these items, donated to Bright Hope, are shipped to partners in Angola who distribute them to those in the most desperate circumstances.

Through the grace of God and generosity there is hope - the hope of healing, the hope of the light of salvation beyond the confines of a devastated world.

Statement of Faith [ Back to top ]

Bright Hope International communicates its Statement of Faith as follows:

We believe ...

I.The Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the inspired Word of God, inerrant in the original documents and of final authority in all matters of faith and practice.

II.In one God, eternally existent in three Persons -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

III.In the full deity and perfect humanity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, His impeccability, His representative and substitutionary sacrifice, His bodily resurrection, His ascension to the Father’s right hand, His present high priestly ministry and His personal return in power and glory.

IV.That regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely necessary for the salvation of fallen, sinful, and lost mankind. Salvation is a free gift of God’s grace received by personal faith through Jesus Christ.

V.In the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the believer is sealed until the day of redemption and is empowered to live a godly life.

VI.The church is composed of all true believers in the Lord Jesus Christ. These believers are united to Him and to one another by the indwelling Spirit. The church’s chief functions are to glorify God and to witness for Christ until He returns. The local church is composed of a group of believers in a specific locality who gather in Christ’s name for breaking of bread, prayers, fellowship, and teaching.

VII.We believe in the resurrection of the saved and of the lost: of the saved to the resurrection of life, and of the lost, to the resurrection of judgement, eternal and conscious."

History [ Back to top ]

Bright Hope International was founded in 1968 by Dr. Kevin Dyer, PhD to minister to Christians behind the Iron Curtain. Bright Hope delivered food, clothing, medicines and thousands of Bibles to persecuted Christian families all across Eastern and Central Europe.

In 1993, Craig H. Dyer became President of Bright Hope and with him came a passion and vision for ministering to the world's poorest people. Bright Hope has since expanded its relief projects, added a development (jobs) program, and a growing evangelism program.

Shining Light [ Back to top ]

2011 MinistryWatch.com Shining Light top ministry list
2010 MinistryWatch.com Shining Light top ministry list

Analyst Comments [ Back to top ]

Bright Hope International listed by MinistryWatch.com as a 2011 Shining Light ‘Top 30’ Exemplary Ministry.

This ministry is called a ‘Shining Light’ because it is indeed a model of letting their light shine before men, and God is to be glorified in what they are doing. Consequently, we are shining a figurative light on them so that donors may be aware of their good deeds.

Believers are recognizable by their fruit, which includes the services they perform for Him and for others. We see a glimpse of His light and glory in this ministry and if you do too, you should feel very good about giving to it; however, only you can decide for yourself with confidence if a ministry shares your values and with your giving plan.

Inclusion as a Shining Light does not mean it is perfect. No ministry is perfect and any that look long and hard enough may find areas for improvement; as no doubt most legitimate ministries are aware of areas to improve and have their own to-do list for improvement. As far as MinistryWatch.com’s assessment, given the criteria that we followed, this ministry rose among the top.

Identifying a diversity of the best ministries is challenging given the selfless work that so many do for the cause of Christ. MinistryWatch.com’s assessment looked at the following seven areas when considering those to make the list: (1) Transparency, (2) Truth Claims, (3) Values/ Worldview, (4) Sectors/Functions, (5) Resourcefulness, (6) Red Flag Issues, (7) Counsel with others.

A fuller explanation of our evaluation criteria is on the front page of MinistryWatch.com. As is evident, we looked at many factors and as such, a high Financial Efficiency Rating was not a requirement of inclusion on this list, although most do have good ratings. Many factors were reviewed and strengths in other areas can offset weakness in financial efficiency when determining whether a ministry should be of interest to donors seeking to be good stewards of their giving. A foundational premise was to shine a figurative light on those ministries that were "Christian" more than in name only. Ministries were chosen that were not just marketing to Christians as a market segment for "Christian donor money", but ministries that had theological underpinnings and Biblical values that determined their actions. Organizations that relied more on a secular motivation and means were excluded as well as those “ministries” that seem to view the organization as their own vehicle as a business to make money rather than a love to maximize ministry to others and to let their light shine for the glory of God.

MinistryWatch.com desires to see overall giving to Biblical Christian values increase and as such we developed this format to highlight those ministries which are exemplary. This ministry is an outstanding example when we consider it through the lens of Philippians 4:8 and weigh and take account of those ministries that are excellent and worthy of praise.
