In 1962, Michael Cassidy was a young man full of the new joy of knowing Jesus and he had a vision to evangelize the continent of Africa. Now, 37 years after his first outreach to Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, Michael still leads AE, an international evangelistic mission.
Today AE consists of ten teams of men and women of all races and denominations. Based in Pietermaritzburg, the ministry?s influence has spread throughout Africa and AE evangelists work out of Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, Congo (Zaire) and Zimbabwe. AE?s stated mission is to evangelize the cities of Africa through word and deed in partnership with the church. The Word - the Good News of the Saving Grace of Jesus Christ has been taken from Cape Town to Cairo, from Monrovia to Mombasa, with AE teams reaching out to thousands of - people, many of them shattered by disaster - others are simply seeking the love of God.
Likewise the teams have worked steadfastly in the area of reconciliation, and over the past six years have been especially moved to help heal violence-torn areas of the continent such as Rwanda and South Africa. Michael has been led to accelerate his ministry to leadership - and is driven by the belief that leaders? minds changed for Christ will bless the lives of the people they lead. Bridge-Building Encounters have brought together many young people of different races Though evangelism lies at the very heart of AE, the ministry recognizes the need to reveal Jesus? practical love for people, and is thus firmly rooted in social concern and ministering to basic human needs - the deed part of the mission statement.
Several AE programs deal directly with social needs of communities in Africa while taking every opportunity to share the Gospel: Health Clinics tend to disease and illness in the slums of Kenya; Uganda?s Immunization Program helps save thousands of lives each year by providing shots for chicken pox, measles, tetanus and malaria. The Social Empowerment and Development Program helps communities to develop skills and promote local commerce, such as market-gardening, child-care centers and dress-making.
AE is a partnership of Christians from around the world dedicated to the evangelization of the people of Africa, and dependent on the prayers and financial support of its partners.

This area is meant as a mechanism for the profiled ministry to communicate anything they may choose. It is open ended as to the topic, issues, facts or news to address. It is not negative if there is no official statement as many don’t have anything to add than what is already on the profile. This section is not tied to transparency or to communication in general. Many very open and talkative ministries with us choose not to post an official statement. This section is just an open ended offering to the profiled ministry for anything extra to say as they may choose.
