Statement of Faith [ Back to top ]
Precept Ministries of Reach Out uses the following to communicate its doctrinal statement:
Precept Ministries' doctrinal statement summarizes biblical truth that historically and doctrinally has been regarded as essential to the Christian faith. We ask that all of our leaders be in full agreement with this statement.
The Scriptures: We believe in the plenary verbal inspiration of the Word of God. And that both the Old and New Testaments are inerrant in the original writings and are the supreme and final authority for faith and life.
The Godhead: We believe the Godhead exists in three Persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. These three persons are one God, having precisely the same nature, attributes and perfections.
The Lord Jesus Christ: We believe in His eternal existence as God; His Incarnation and Virgin Birth; His death on the cross as the substitutionary atonement for sin; His literal, bodily resurrection from the dead; His present ministry of intercession in heaven; and His personal, future return to earth.
The Holy Spirit: We believe that the Holy Spirit, the third Person of the Godhead, convicts men of sin, regenerates, baptizes, indwells, seals and sets apart believers unto a holy life; that He keeps and empowers believers day by day; that He is the Teacher of the Word of God and the Guide for daily living.
Man: We believe that man was created innocent and pure and Adam fell through the sin of disobedience. Therefore, all men are corrupted in body, soul and spirit; and all men need redemption.
Salvation: We believe that salvation is by grace, a free gift of God apart from works; salvation involves repentance, a turning from one's own way to God's way; salvation is through personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; all who receive Jesus Christ are regenerated by the Holy Spirit and become the children of God; and true salvation will be manifested by a changed life.
The future: We believe in the personal, visible, bodily return of Jesus Christ to earth; in the bodily resurrection of the just to eternal abode in the glory of God's presence, and in the bodily resurrection of the unjust to judgment and everlasting punishment in the lake of fire.
In 1970, Jack and Kay Arthur, a missionary couple, suffered medical problems and returned home to Chattanooga. Jack Arthur became the Station Manager for a Christian radio station, and Kay Arthur started a Bible study for teenagers in their living room. God blessed this Bible study, and it began to grow. Soon the teens were meeting in a barn, which they had cleaned out and patched up themselves, and adults began coming too. They needed an expanded ministry center. So, Jack left his radio career and became the president and leader of this flourishing organization. Today Precept reaches around the world into over 100 countries.
Precept has communicated the following needs:
Precept Ministry is now ministering in 118 countries in 63 languages and the demand for their printed Bible study materials along with the teaching and training they provide continues to grow. It is only through the prayers and financial support of faithful friends that it is possible for the ministry to do all they believe God has called them to do.

God’s Word, Learning to understand and apply it to our lives
Precept Ministries International was founded to help readers of the Bible to comprehend what they have read through a method called “Precept upon Precept” inductive Bible study. This ministry teaches how to study the Bible with deeper understanding through observation (What does the passage say?), interpretation (What does the passage mean?) and application (How does the meaning of this passage apply to me?). Thus, allowing one to discover the resources of the scriptures for their self.
Precept Ministries’ co-founders Jack and Kay Arthur developed this means to instill individuals with the ability to hear God speaking through His Word in a more personal way, not having to depend exclusively on commentaries or on someone else for an interruption. Learning these skills gives individuals the tools to apply God’s Word to every circumstance of life.
Precept Ministries International inductive Bible study institutions (located through out the United States and in over 119 other countries) offers instructive classes for individuals who desire to start a small group Bible study in their own area. Starting these Bible studies in neighborhoods around the world may well open the door to the Great Commission, “Go out and train everyone you meet, far and near, in this way of life, marking them by baptism in the threefold name: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Then instruct them in the practice of all I have commanded you.....” Matthew 28:19-20, “The Message.”
For those who seek a faster way of learning this technique, workshops are conducted at the institutes. The Precept Ministries Headquarters in Chattanooga, TN hosts a winter workshop focusing on inductive Bible study from basic to in-depth. Classes are 3- 8 days in length. Other facilities also offer workshops at different times through out the year.
Precept is known as a Bible-centered ministry and therefore uses all opportunities to share these insights. Kay Arthur has two daily radio programs “Precepts with Kay Arthur”, where she teaches listeners an in-depth way to study God’s Word that she guarantees will change their lives forever and “Precepts from God’s Word” a one minute program that encourages one’s walk with Christ. She also has two weekly programs on television stations through out the United States and the world. “How Can I live?” is an one hour programs that teaches viewers through inductive Bible study how to find biblical answers for every day living and a half hour program “Precepts For Life” guides viewers looking for answers to the tough questions in life.
Precept Ministries also host conferences of many types including Couples’, Women’s, Men’s and Teens. Precept Ministry is well aware of all the temptations that face our -young people today and hosts summer camps to train teens in inductive Bible studies, These camps are not only designed to motivate them to teach others this method of study but encourages them to be Christ-like leaders among their peers. Precept Ministry also has a camp for college students too. This week long camp teaches these students the inductive Bible study method in order to study God’s Word for themselves, helping them to beware of the differences between man’s philosophies and God’s absolutes.
Tour Studies are another one of the many aspects of Precept Ministries International that helps one to come to a clearer interpretation of the Bible. On these tours the Bible comes alive as one enters the Holy City and sees the Temple Mount or tours through the cities that Paul wrote about in his Epistles as these books are studied.
What was started as a small Bible study in Jack and Kay Arthur’s living room many years ago has grown into a worldwide ministry that has not strayed from the roots of its beginnings. It has expanded its teachings with several different options; yet it still has remained faithful in “establishing people in God’s Word.” When one has the assurance of understanding and applying the Word in their lives, it can’t help but keep them from being deceived by false teachers, prophets and religions that are emerging daily.
