Summary

Advancing Native Missions (ANM) exists for one purpose: to help take the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the world's remaining unreached peoples. ANM does this by standing behind 3,500+ indigenous or native missionaries who are reaching their own people in more than 80 countries of the world.

Today, more than 80% of world evangelization is being carried out by native missionaries, who have free access to all regions of the world-including those closed to foreign missionaries. Headquartered in Charlottesville, Virginia, ANM is an inter-denominational, evangelical, non-profit missions organization that serves as a bridge between native missionaries and the body of Christ in North America.

ANM seeks out, evaluates, and sends support to native mission groups who are evangelical in faith, transparent in their finances, and focused on reaching unreached people groups. ANM also shares information about native missions with churches and individuals in North America, so they can partner with these missionaries for the rapid advancement of God's kingdom.

This organization is a nonprofit. Contributions to it are fully tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. It is a member of the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA).

Mission Statement [ Back to top ]

Advancing Native Missions's Mission Statement is:

Advancing Native Missions has been called to seek out, evaluate, and support native missions groups who have a clear and defined evangelical statement of faith, who are open and transparent in their finances, and who are working among unreached people groups. We share information about these native missions with evangelical churches and individuals in North America who are willing to pray and give for the advancement of God's Kingdom through these ministries. Visiting native mission leaders work with ANM to declare God's Word to the churches of North America and inspire them to be actively involved in missions at home and abroad. Through the coordination of Vision Trips, ANM puts individuals in a unique position to get a first-hand view of the life and spirit of native missions throughout the world. We purpose to be open and transparent before both God and man in the stewardship of the gifts the Lord's people entrust to ANM.

Statement of Faith [ Back to top ]

Advancing Native Missions, Inc. uses the following to express its Statement of Faith:

We believe that the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the inspired word of God, inerrant in the original documents and of final authority in all matters of faith and practice;

We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit;

We believe in the full deity and perfect humanity of our Lord, His representative and substitutionary sacrifice, His bodily resurrection, His ascension to the Father's right hand, His present high priestly ministry, and His personal return in power and glory;

We believe in the regeneration by the Holy Spirit, which is absolutely necessary for the salvation of fallen, sinful, and lost mankind and which is a free gift of God's grace received by personal faith through Christ Jesus;

We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit, by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life;

We believe in the bodily resurrection of the just and unjust: those who are saved to everlasting blessedness, and those who are lost unto the resurrection of damnation;

And that the universal church is composed of all true believers in Christ Jesus who are united in Him and to one another by the indwelling Holy Spirit. The chief functions of the church are to worship God and witness for the Lord Jesus Christ until He returns. The local church is composed of a group of believers in a specific locality who gather in Christ's name for the breaking of bread, prayers, fellowship and teaching.

History [ Back to top ]

ANM was founded in 1992 by Carl Gordon of USA, Rev. Benjamin Barredo of the Philippines, and Re. C.V. John of India. These three men partnered together to begin a new organization that would assist Third World national leaders and their people in the most effective and efficient manner, to respond to the large spiritual, financial and developmental challenges facing the Third World.

Since that time, God has brought many dedicated and talented men and women form around the U.S. and even around the world to join the ANM team, because they all shared in this same vision. Presently ANM has approximately 25 staff based in our U.S. headquarters, 3 staff based in India, and 1 in Indonesia.

Ministry Needs [ Back to top ]

ANM expresses its needs as follows:

1. Pray fervently for native missions.
2. Adopt an individual native missionary.
3. Adopt a native missions group.
4. Sponsor a child.
5. Participate in Operation Barnabas.
6. Provide funds for needed equipment. By contributing to ANM's Missionary Equipment Fund, you can facilitate the purchase of Bibles & tracts, horses, bicycles, lamps, shoes, and other vital equipment provided to native missionaries where needed.

ANM always has major needs, because they continually receive a steady stream of urgent appeals form their overseas ministry partners. Many of these needs can be found on their website.

Shining Light [ Back to top ]

2010 MinistryWatch.com Shining Light top ministry list

Analyst Comments [ Back to top ]

Advancing Native Missions listed by MinistryWatch.com as a 2010 Shining Light ‘Top 30’ Exemplary Ministry.

This ministry is called a ‘Shining Light’ because it is indeed a model of letting their light shine before men, and God is to be glorified in what they are doing. Consequently, we are shining a figurative light on them so that donors may be aware of their good deeds.

Believers are recognizable by their fruit, which includes the services they perform for Him and for others. We see a glimpse of His light and glory in this ministry and if you do too, you should feel very good about giving to it; however, only you can decide for yourself with confidence if a ministry shares your values and with your giving plan.

Inclusion as a Shining Light does not mean it is perfect. No ministry is perfect and any that look long and hard enough may find areas for improvement; as no doubt most legitimate ministries are aware of areas to improve and have their own to-do list for improvement. As far as MinistryWatch.com’s assessment, given the criteria that we followed, this ministry rose among the top.

Identifying a diversity of the best ministries is challenging given the selfless work that so many do for the cause of Christ. MinistryWatch.com’s assessment looked at the following seven areas when considering those to make the list: (1) Transparency, (2) Truth Claims, (3) Values/ Worldview, (4) Sectors/Functions, (5) Resourcefulness, (6) Red Flag Issues, (7) Counsel with others.

A fuller explanation of our evaluation criteria is on the front page of MinistryWatch.com. As is evident, we looked at many factors and as such, a high Financial Efficiency Rating was not a requirement of inclusion on this list, although most do have good ratings. Many factors were reviewed and strengths in other areas can offset weakness in financial efficiency when determining whether a ministry should be of interest to donors seeking to be good stewards of their giving. A foundational premise was to shine a figurative light on those ministries that were "Christian" more than in name only. Ministries were chosen that were not just marketing to Christians as a market segment for "Christian donor money", but ministries that had theological underpinnings and Biblical values that determined their actions. Organizations that relied more on a secular motivation and means were excluded as well as those “ministries” that seem to view the organization as their own vehicle as a business to make money rather than a love to maximize ministry to others and to let their light shine for the glory of God.

MinistryWatch.com desires to see overall giving to Biblical Christian values increase and as such we developed this format to highlight those ministries which are exemplary. This ministry is an outstanding example when we consider it through the lens of Philippians 4:8 and weigh and take account of those ministries that are excellent and worthy of praise.
