Charlotte--Authentic Books will release "A Lover's Quarrel With The Evangelical Church" on May 10. The book, by Charlotte author Warren Cole Smith, is an unflinching look at the evangelical church and the money- and celebrity-making machine it has become.
"The Evangelical Church has become what I call in the book the Christian-Industrial Complex," Smith said. "It started out with good intentions to evangelize the lost and care for the poor, but it has turned into a quest for money and power."
For many years, Smith has been an well-known participant in the evangelical world. "I have not turned my back on my faith," Smith said. "But I do believe that certain excesses of the so-called 'faithful' need to be exposed. Hopefully, 'Lover's Quarrel' will do that in ways that are constructive, not destructive, to people's faith."
